Tomatoes
Using Tomato Powder:
Caution: tomato powders vary in intensity of acid/flavor, so start with a low amount and then add more as needed. Keep opened tomato powder in a tight container in the fridge so it won't harden.
Tomato Sauce (equivalent to an 8 oz. can):
1/4 c. tomato powder
1 c. water
Tomato Paste (equivalent to a 6 oz. can):
1/4 c. tomato powder
1/2 c. water
Tomato Paste, small amount: very convenient!!
Equal parts of water and tomato powder: 1 T. tomato powder + 1 T. water = 1 T. tomato paste
Spaghetti Sauce:
1/2 c. tomato powder + 2 c. water
1 T. italian seasoning
1 tsp. dried crushed basil
1 tsp. garlic granules or powder
1 tsp. onion salt
1 to 2 T. olive oil
Pizza Sauce: (makes about 1/2 cup)
2 T. tomato powder
6 T. water up to
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1 to 2 tsp. italian seasonings
1/2 T. olive oil
Tomato Juice:
1 T. tomato powder
about 1/2 c. water
can add a bit of onion powder, sugar, salt, pepper to taste
Quick Tomato Soup:
up to 1 c. tomato powder (start with 2/3 c.)
3 c. water
1 T. bouillon
1/2 c. dried onions (rehydrate before adding to the soup)
maybe Italian seasonings or basil
salt/pepper to taste
Another Tomato Soup:
1/2 c. diced onion, saute in butter in saucepan first, then add:
3 c. water Mix the following dry ingredients then add to soup:
1 c. tomato powder
1 T. chicken bouillon
3/4 c. dry cream powder
1 to 3 tsp. sugar
salt and pepper to taste
Stir all gently with a wire whip and heat.
A Substitute for 1 can of CONDENSED Tomato Soup:
1/4 c. tomato powder
1 T. cornstarch
up to 1 T. brown sugar or sugar
1/2 tsp. sea salt
1 c. + 2 T. water
Simply mix the dry ingredients together with a whisk, then add the water and mix until very smooth. Use in place of one can condensed tomato soup.
Ketchup:
3 and 1/2 c. water
1 c. tomato powder
1/3 c. apple cider vinegar
up to 1/3 c. honey
2 T. minced onion
1/2 tsp. garlic granules or powder
1 tsp. sea salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
1/2 tsp. dry mustard
1/8 tsp. allspice
1/8 tsp. cloves
1/8 tsp. ground coriander seeds
Mix all ingredients in large saucepan, stir/heat on low 20 minutes until thickened to your preference, let cool in pan.
Barbeque Sauce:
1/2 c. tomato powder
1 c. water
1/3 c. brown sugar or sugar
2 T. vinegar
1 T. worcestershire sauce
1 T. soy sauce
1 T. yellow mustard
1 clove garlic, pressed/minced
2 T. minced onion
1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper
optional salt and pepper to taste
Mix all ingredients in large saucepan, stir/heat on low 15 minutes.
~Add tomato powder to Soups, Stews, Chili
~Add 1/4 c. tomato powder to your homemade noodle recipe
~Enchilada Sauce
~Spanish Rice
~In Tomato-flavored Dips, such as tomato basil bruschetta dip
~Sprinkle as a topping on hummus, popcorn, deviled eggs
